Beauty Basics

So what are we doing this spring?

I spoke with Zurich based makeup artist Iliana Illien about the beauty trends that we are loving this Spring, and here are our top picks.

First and most importantly, we are doing our skin care routine. Consistently and purposefully.

Identify your skin concerns: dullness, hyperpigmentation, dryness, fine lines or large pores. Then use the necessary products to help.

When we take care of our skin, our makeup routine requires minimal products and just a few minutes. The trend for the spring and summer is glowy, dewy skin. That sun-kissed luminous look.

Second, priming the skin (remember to use a primer that contains SPF for daytime). The choice of primer will depend on your skin type, oily, dry, normal or combination. Do not skip out on this step. Primers help the makeup to stay in place and last longer.

CONCEALER. Using a concealer to brighten under eyes gives the face an instant lift plus you can spot cover any acne or hyperpigmentation scars. A favourite is MAC Conceal and Correct palette. Honestly this is all you need!

TINTED MOISTURISERS are great especially during warmer months and helps us to achieve the ‘my skin but better’ look.

YSL NU Bare Look Tint Foundation

BLUSH AND BRONZER are my favourite makeup products to apply. They really add that element of glam. This season is less about shimmer and more about brightening, adding roseiness to the cheeks with cream blushes in peach, coral or pink. I saw cocoswatches on Instagram using a blush/bronzer combo and I am obsessed!

FENTY BEAUTY Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush

MAYBELLINE Cheek HEAT

MAC Glow Play Blush

CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream.

HIGHLIGHTERS will reflect the sunlight. Add a little to the cheek, under the brows and on the nose.

Now it’s time for LIPS. Gloss is always good for spring, bold reds will always have my heart . After 2 years of mask wearing we want our lips to be the conversation piece (pun intended).

Lastly, the EYES. The soap brow look is trendy this season. This is really just a new term for the style of feathered, brushed-up brows that appear full. Thin brows be gone!
